Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy that is commonly used to treat the restriction of motion and pains associated with physical dysfunction. Myofascial release can be achieved by relaxing contracted muscles, increasing circulation and stimulating the stretch reflex of the overlying fascia  (the soft tissue element of the connective tissue that gives protection and support for most of the structures inside the human body) and muscles.

The fascia can become tight as a result of trauma, overuse,  psychogenic disease and infectious agents. Additionally, inactivity, lessened blood flow, and muscle tension can also lead to a tightness in your soft tissues. Myofascial release techniques aim to ensure that your fascia is treated and restored to its normal state. These techniques can target the stages of inflammation and tightness of your soft tissues and aid those with chronic inflammation or fibrosis (the thickening of connective tissues.)
